Well Now , Someone Threw Us A Bone

Looks like Progress,

http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/index ... ng-the-aws

We've seen several threads in the Hangar over time discussing the AWS system and how CRS might be able to tweak it. Here's a sampling of pilot concerns and suggestions and GOPHUR's feedback: "...We just wanted skirting stopped, there could have been a better alternative. This game is about WWII and pilots back then didnt have GPS and Country wide radar telling them every Tom Dick N Harry were taking off at such and such airfields... As bombers lift from far behind enemy lines at rear airfields they are detected and interceptors scramble to intercept"
GOPHUR: We should increase the initial detection time and randomness. We're looking at that. We can't (unfortunately) add randomness to that based on ownership of the ground below but we can assume you're probably not taking off from the front line and give more time before detection. Good call I think.

"Make every 4 AWS boxes 1 big box. I doubt the rats are going to completely gut AWS, but I think this may be a decent compromise."

GOPHUR: Interesting. We calculated the area after pretty thorough testing. We wanted people to be able to engage you before you got away but that might like a revisit. Harder to do at present than some things on the list. We're kinda looking for more immediate solutions.

"another thing they should do change or add to this is increase the # of planes to trigger yellow or red AWS...make the numbers more like 5 minimum for yellow and 10 minimum for red."

GOPHUR: I like the increase to red. This would add more "hunting" back into the game without adding more "searching in vain for hours on end". Sure some players like that. We don't. It's an MMO, you're supposed to play with others on your side against others on the other side. We need to foster that better with more grouping dynamics but that is a discussion for another day.

"Why not do it as the ground? A player simply "reports" air threats in his current area. The radar covers that area for 2 mins before fading out again."

GOPHUR: Players only occupy a thin strip of the map. First obvious issue is skirting. Second is false reporting. Third is ...

"Yeah this AWS is too much. It should be limited to warning about RDP raids long after they've taken off, not tactical bombing on the front lines."

GOPHUR: There is no way to distinguish an RDP raid. Besides we generally disagree. The fundamentals are sound for the amount of deviation playstyle has from historical. We want players to engage the enemy and not just have a patrol game. This is not an uncommon feature in online flight sims with play spaces of our magnitude.

"Change AWS so that it only gives awacs warning of planes that are 1 square ahead of the ground war's front lines"

GOPHUR: Unable to tie this to strat data at present but if we were we'd definitely have it over enemy lines.

"i would like to see a "radar" system depending on Tier status...Tier 0-1: like the old system ... but ofc only info about EA above own territory...Tier 2-5: like the actual AWS system"

GOPHUR: Could be very nice but not in the cards.

"No serious Factory raids are going to lift knowing that the SECOND they do, they are spotted...Under pop gets punished because the overpop side is scowering for something to kill, and when they see that yellow square light up..zooooom! Right for it....I'm all for leaving AWS in an update 60 seconds mode OUTSIDE the playable map area (capurable towns). Put bomber ews back in...add active ao reports for EA to the autospam we get now for soldiers."

GOPHUR: Agreed. The detection time (random) needs to increase dramatically. We can't terrain limit this at present, not, I think, that we'd want to. We could also possible add more randomness and length to the update cycle. It isn't supposed to be radar but more an indicator of where enemy activity is expected.

The discussion here is ongoing, everyone has an idea or opinion and we need to weigh them all carefully before we pull the trigger on any changes to the game.

I would go ahead and suggest getting some comfortable footwear available, just in-case we end up standing around tapping our feet !! LOL

If you haven't seen the Poll (OMG  ) go here http://forums.battlegroundeurope.com/sh ... p?t=322460

But Hats off to Frantish, with the poll and such, and just generally being a good steward of us Bomber Lovers to the RATS......

Update from the 1.31.44 beta readme:

AWS:
- Increased initial detection reporting time to >300 seconds
- Drastically increased threshold for heavy AWS

Could someone get the Rats dictionary out and look up what the numerical equation is to the phrase ">300 seconds" and the phrase "Drastically increased threshold".
I sure it means a numeric value/time , etc, I just can't find my copy of the dictionary ATM.

Thanks Let Me Know.

had some ppl in the hargar reporting up to 5 ea in a yellow square, but no numbers given by the rats. this is all we have form DOC so far
DOC wrote:We're experimenting with lots of things. That's the whole point of doing it at all. We changed the AWS to be more vague and require more planes to go from yellow to red.
>300 seconds means it wont start reporting untill more then 300 seconds (5mins) have past, either that or it will be a 5min update time for planes flying.

ya all this is good for larger flights but without some changes done to RDP it doesnt really matter dose it.

It'll be interesting to see. 300+ seconds for an AWS update may make it damn near impossible to find a single bomber, possibly even a huge flight of bombers. What if a bomber crosses multiple squares within that 300 seconds? Does it light up each square in sequential order or does it just light up the square he started in and the one he is currently in at +300 seconds?

I agree with you, Sniper. If no changes in RDP effects, any changes made to the AWS are meaningless. Sounds like the Rats are putting the cart before the horse.

I tell you, the Rats sure make it hard on themselves. They are making a mountain out of a molehill.

It's 5 minutes for initial detection by AWS then the same update rate as we have now.

So that basically means that we have 5 mins to get our asses off the ground and pointed towards the factory before AWS picks us up.

No more hanging out at, or circling airfields.

That just means no RDP raids start from more than 3 squares behind the lines basically. So, no real improvement IMHO. Besides, it won't matter anyway if the effects on RDP aren't changed.

ROFLMAO. I guess it's true. The Rats throw out a few molecules of RDP pheromones and the RDP bomber boys come a runnin'
